Generating Vertical Velocity and Angular Momentum during Skating Jumps
نویسنده
چکیده
Albert and Miller (1997) performed an analysis of vertical velocity and angular momentum for single and double Axels. Their results indicate that both radial and tangential motion of the skater are critical to the generation of vertical velocity throughout the take-off of single and double Axels. In generating angular momentum during the take-off, the movement of the free leg was most critical. The authors surmised that the movement of the fee leg creates an eccentric horizontal ground reaction force with a moment consistent with the rotational direction of the jump. The purpose of this study was to expand upon the study of Albert and Miller (1997) and investigate the techniques used by athletes in generating vertical velocity and angular momentum in single, double, and triple Axels.

Performing triple and quadruple figure skating jumps: implications for training.
The purpose of this paper is to review the biomechanics of triple and quadruple figure skating jumps, focusing on information that has implications for strength and conditioning programs. At a minimum, to complete the required revolutions in a jump, a skater must balance the average angular velocity with the time in the air. Vertical velocity at takeoff is similar in high revolution jumps to th...

The purpose of this study was to compare triple (T) and quadruple (Q) toe-loop figure skating jumps and quantify basic characteristics of these jumps to provide information to coaches that will assist them in teaching quadruple toe-loops to elite figure skaters. High-speed video was taken during men's practice and competition sessions at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics; three-dimensiona...
متن کاملA comparison of pairs figure skaters in repeated jumps.
Trends in pairs figure skating have shown that increasingly difficult jumps have become an essential aspect of high-level performance, especially in the latter part of a competitive program. We compared a repeated jump power index in a 60 s repeated jump test to determine the relationship of repeated jump test to competitive rank and to measure 2D hip, knee, and ankle angles and angular velocit...
متن کاملEffect of Fatigue on Knee Kinematics During Countermovement Jumps in Female Students of Physical Education With Valgus Knee Deformity
Objectives: Skeletal-muscular disorders affect the biomechanics of the human body, especially the lower extremity, with a negative effect on the biomechanics of exercise. The main aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of fatigue on the kinematic variables of knee joints during countermovement jumps in female students of physical education with valgus knee deformity. Methods: Fifte...
متن کاملThe Precessing Top
When a symmetric top is set spinning with angular velocity ω c about its own axis, it traces out a circle about a vertical direction with angular velocity ω z , as shown in Fig. 1. In most textbooks [1, 2, 3] the precessional angular velocity ω z is calculated under the assumption that it is much smaller than the spin angular velocity ω c . This makes for a simplification of the calculation by ...
